Do you know the danger of bottled helium?

Time:2017-09-11 00:00:00

Helium is stored in a high-pressure gas cylinder and is a non-toxic, colorless, odorless, and non-flammable gas. When the helium content in the air is too high and the oxygen content is less than <19.5%, it will cause rapid suffocation. When bottled helium cylinders encounter high heat, there is a danger of physical explosion.

Helium, whose English name is Helium and its symbol is He, is colorless, odorless, non-combustible gas, and its content in the air is about 5.2 parts per million. It is chemically inactive and does not combine with other elements or compounds under normal conditions.

Helium is a simple asphyxiant. Helium is a non-toxic gas, but it will displace oxygen in the air and cause suffocation. Lack of oxygen can cause serious injury or death.

If a person is in the air with an oxygen content below 19.5%, it will cause dizziness, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, excessive saliva, unresponsiveness, loss of consciousness and even death. If a person is in the air containing 8-10% or less oxygen, they will quickly lose consciousness without any warning, and lose the ability to protect themselves.

When the bottled helium cylinder is in a high temperature or fire environment, it will quickly discharge or explode violently. Most gas cylinders are designed with pressure relief devices when the temperature rises. The pressure in the cylinder will rise due to the effect of heat. If the pressure relief device fails, the cylinder will explode.
